When it comes to building the right shape pergola for your garden, the shape may not always conform to what is available in the marketplace and a corner pergola is just such a design shape.  When looking at the various types of pergolas online, you will notice that a custom pergola can be an expensive option and knowing that there are other most cost effective possibilities can help you achieve the look without the expense.

Corner pergolas can be set up on a three, four or five post system depending on the size of the structure.   The biggest advantage of fitting a pergola into a corner space is that these areas tend not to be utilized to their maximum potential and also often give fantastic vantage views of the rest of your garden.

There are three distinct corner pergola designs:-

Triangular Designs

Triangular corner pergolas generally are constructed with support posts along the right angled sides of the pergola with no support pillars in the front offering an unobstructed view of the garden.  In order to ensure the stability of these structures they cannot be too large or an additional support beam will be required in the centre of the perpendicular, or open fronted side.

Semi Circular Designs

A popular new design to hit the market is the semi-circular corner pergola design.  The wagon wheel rafter design on the top of the pergola as well as the additional front posts make this a much more closed structure, but add a softer element to the overall structure and make them ideal for both looks and stability.

L-Shaped Designs

L-shaped corner pergolas are great for inserting seating benches against the corner wall.  They offer a reduced amount of shade, but with climbing plants, can look fantastic over time.

All of these structures are easy to build and with so many kit pieces now available, you can design and build your own making use of other pergola kit parts.  Not only can you now construct your corner pergola from wood, but there are great resources for vinyl and composite posts and rafters for a quick, cost effective and easy to maintain alternative.
